Sundowning is defined as a period at the end of the day when a person with dementia exhibits more agitation or behavioral disturbances for NO known cause. Little research has been done in this area, but that which has been completed implicates frustrated ability to communicate, sleep disturbances related to dementia, and poor light exposure as possible causes.
